When was the last time you said thank you to your customers?
Your customers have a choice.
Do not forget that your customers have a choice. Even if you are a new product or service, your customers an choice to not use you. So remember to say thank you. It does not have to be a be gift basket or expensive tickets to a show. It can be a simple, “thank you” before ending the call. It could be a gift card, or some company swag. Just something that lets them know you are thinking about them and want to acknowledge the fact that they do have a choice and they choose to work with you. Do not get blinded by your great idea and assume that your customers have to have you. You need them more than they need you, at least in most cases. So say thank you.
Do it regularly, but do not make it an expectation.
Remember to say thank you on a regular basis, but do not let it be an expectations. If your customers expect it from you every month, then it does not have the same affect. They will not understand you are saying thank you and instead will expect it as a reward for them. You want it to still be special and not expected. Some customers will be better at this than others. I have worked with customers in the past that no matter what you do they felt that it was an honor for you to work with them and get their business so you should give them swag or meals or tickets just because they are the worlds best customer. If you have one of those customers you might need to consider firing them. Just make sure you have some other customers to fill in the revenue gap.
Ideas.
Here are just some ideas that I have used, or others have to say thank you.
Flowers, Edible Arrangements, Tiffs Treats, Coffee, Breakfast delivered to the office, Lunch (delivered or taking them out), Gift card for dinner with partner, Company hats, Company jackets or vests, wine, whiskey, rent out a venue for the evening, thank you card, certificate for discount on future work or referral. I’m sure you have some other great ideas, but these are a start.
Going to keep this one short and sweet so remember:
You customers have a choice, even if you are a new product or service.
Say thank you on a regular basis.
Do not let your thank you gifts become an expectation.
Speaking of thank you’s, Thank you for spending your time reading this post. I hope there is a small nugget that you can find here in this article or others that I have written. If you do I would appreciate it greatly if you could share this with a friend or 50. :-)
Thanks!
