Continuing our dive into Gallup’s 2024 Global Emotions report, one standout metric was that 85% of people worldwide said they felt treated with respect the day before. That’s a hopeful signal and a powerful one for anyone building a business. Because in business, respect isn’t just a feeling. It’s a competitive advantage. Especially for solopreneurs and technical founders who often focus on product, process, or pitch, this post is a reminder: Relationships are a growth strategy. It may be hard to find the time to develop relationships and build your business. But this stat tells us our important it is to dedicate that time. To build that relationship. Today we’ll focus on how this will help you build revenue, improve marketing outcomes and what you need to do to start.
Thanks for your time. Eng Sales is here to help, not just you but others. So share this with one person you know could benefit from it. Thanks!
Respect Builds Revenue
In a market flooded with noise, the people who stand out are the ones who listen well and follow through. Customers do not just want competence, they want confidence that you will keep your word. That is where trust begins, and trust is what unlocks long-term revenue such as:
Repeat customers/business
Customer referrals
Testimonials
Case studies
If you want to grow without constantly chasing new leads, focus on earning deeper respect from your current network. It compounds faster than you think. Connect with your customers. Ask them what problems they have. How can you help them fix those problems? Do you know someone that can help them? Remember, even if you do not fix the problem for them you are still part of the solution if you bring the solution to you. Helping your customers with problems outside of your scope will go a long way to build a quality relationship and build trust.
Relationships Outlast Campaigns
Marketing can help you get in the door. But relationships are what get you invited back. You can spend hours crafting the perfect cold email, or you can spend 10 minutes helping someone solve a problem, with no strings attached. Which one do you think will lead to a faster introduction? In a world of automation, a personal connection is a differentiator. A warm intro from someone who trusts you will open more doors than 1,000 cold DMs. I actually wrote another post on that topic as well. As mentioned above you are looking to build respect you are looking to stand out and last longer than your latest round of Google or Facebook ads. Yes, you need to advertise to get the word out there. But remember that a returning customers costs roughly five times less than getting a new customers. So get the door open with your ad campaign, but keep it open with your solutions.
It Starts With You
Relationships do not scale because of tools. They scale because of behavior. Be consistent. Follow up when you say you will. Be generous. Share insights and make introductions without expecting anything in return. Be curious. Ask good questions and listen like it matters because it does. Respect is not a tactic. It’s a tone you set in your business. Over time, it becomes your reputation. You also just have to show up and do it. Do not depend on anyone else to do it for you and do not wait for events. Reach out and set up coffees, or just stop by the office and drop off breakfast or coffee or lunch. The goal is not to get a lot of time all at once. The goal is to get a lot of micro interactions that lead to building of trust. One day at a time one coffee at a time.
